چکیده

This paper describes a hand-arm system equipped with optical three-axis tactile sensors and a binocular vision sensor. The vision compensates for the limitations of tactile information and tactile sensing, and vice versa. The tactile sensor can obtain geometrical data as real scale, while image data requires calibration to obtain length as a metric unit. Even if stereovision is used, we cannot obtain sufficient precision. In the evaluation test, the robotic hand equipped with tactile sensors traces an object including convex and concave portions to evaluate edge trace precision. Error of distance obtained by the binocular vision is around  10 mm when distance between the camera and object is around 600 mm. When the hand-arm robot touches the convex portion of the object, size data obtained by the vision is modified within  0.5 mm accuracy. Since the robotic finger is too thick to touch the bottom of the concave, size data of the concave portion obtained by tactile sensing includes relatively large error of around 4 mm. However, the robot finger can follow the contour with  0.5 mm accuracy INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL ON SMART SENSING AND INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS VOL. 4, NO. 3, SEPTEMBER 2011

Contourlet-Based Edge Extraction for Image Registration

Image registration is a crucial step in most image processing tasks for which the final result is achieved from a combination of various resources. In general, the majority of registration methods consist of the following four steps: feature extraction, feature matching, transform modeling, and finally image resampling. As the accuracy of a registration process is highly dependent to the fe...

Detection of Coastline Using Satellite Image-Processing Technique

Extended abstract 1- Introduction  Coasts maintain their natural sustainability without human intervention and in spite of short-term changes, we are ultimately confronted with a coastal healthy environment, i.e. natural, rocky beaches, sandy beaches and so on. Today's use of remote sensing in most natural sciences is widespread. Due to the fact that fieldwork is costly and time-consuming, ...

Eecient Edge Detection from Tactile Data

A real-time tactile image processing algorithm for edge contact is presented in this paper. Based on basic elasticity results, closed-form solutions for calculating contact force and local contact geometries (i.e., location and orientation of the line of contact) from the rst three moments of a tactile image are derived. Computational complexity of the proposed algorithm and those of the previo...

On Using a Tactile Sensor for Real-Time Feature Extraction

Object recognition through the use of input from multiple sensors is an important aspect of an autonomous manipulation system. Useful sensors include video cameras, tactile arrays, force gauges and proximity sensors. In this report, we focus on tactile sensors. In tactile object recognition, it is necessary to determine the location and orientation of object edges and surfaces. We propose contr...

Noisy images edge detection: Ant colony optimization algorithm

The edges of an image define the image boundary. When the image is noisy, it does not become easy to identify the edges. Therefore, a method requests to be developed that can identify edges clearly in a noisy image. Many methods have been proposed earlier using filters, transforms and wavelets with Ant colony optimization (ACO) that detect edges. We here used ACO for edge detection of noisy ima...
